I think I need to backstep just a bit and clarify my goals.
Yes, I do love to shop, and for myself I consider it a sport. As I stated, I
also have a love of gadgets. I am fascinated by anything that is considered
new, and innovating, so the Smart TV originally was for me, under the category
of gadgets, with the comparison shopping
as a secondary incentive. Also remember, this purchase was made during the fall
of 2011, so they were relatively a totally new concept for a television.
The major competitors at the time were LG and Samsung.
Google TV only had one size screen and could
not really be considered a major player at that time.
Let me give you a list of the included toys or apps…..You
Tube, Hulu Plus, Netflix, Amazon, Facebook, Skype, Twitter, Picasa, ESPN,
AccuWeather, Yahoo, Google Maps, streaming
video, music, a choice of 2D or 3D viewing, and this is just a sample of the
many apps that are available. They are very similar to any other smart phone or
tablet that have app stores you can go to and download a large variety of games
or other personal entertainment. My youngest son lives in Japan, and has for
the last 4 ½ years, so
we have used Skype for a long time, and because I also traveled and was away
from home a lot of the time, Skype has always been a good form of communication
for my family. Did I mention Internet capability? The content that is on my
computer upstairs is accessible on the Smart TV, that is located in my living
room.
As I said originally, I first saw the televisions at Best
Buy, I purchased the LG, but at Tiger Direct for about $300 less, although I did know that Best Buy would
have price matched if I had asked. When I did purchase the TV, the salesman at
Tiger used the demo TV to complete my sale using the computer on the The Smart
TV.
